A 41-year-old Bourg man was struck and killed by a motorist early Saturday as he walked along La. Highway 24, state police said.

Donald Billiot was walking south in the northbound lane of La. 24 when a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Ahammed Hassen Jr. 32, of Houma, struck him. Troopers said the Crown Victoria came to rest in the northbound lane of La. 24, and Billiot’s body was lying on the centerline of the highway.

The Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Billiot dead at the scene.

Hassen Jr. received no injuries in the collision, state police said. He was wearing a seat belt, and was traveling alone.

According to state police, Billiot is believed to have been intoxicated. A blood test has been conducted and the results are pending.

Hassen Jr. was given a breath test. The results showed .000g percent in his bloodstream, troopers said.

No charges have been filed, and the case remains under investigation.
