Police: Girl, 2, killed by truck in Thibodaux

The Thibodaux Police Department said a 2-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a vehicle Friday morning.

According to police, the child ran out in front of a 2005 white and orange Chevrolet truck and was struck by it in the Rienzi Shopping Center Parking lot at about 10 a.m.

She was pronounced dead on the scene, and her identity had not been released by police.

The driver of the vehicle, whose name had not been released by police, voluntarily submitted to a breathalyzer test, which and showed no signs of alcohol being in his system, police said.

A sample of his blood was drawn to be analyzed at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab to determine if any narcotic was in his system at the time of the accident, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
