Nearly 4,000 people in Lafourche Parish are without electricity this morning following Thursday’s heavy winds and rain.
Lafourche Parish spokesman Doug Cheramie said no flooding was reported, but that power was still out below Golden Meadow. About 4,000 customers, according to Entergy, remained without power Friday morning, with restoration expected by about 3 p.m.
“We are pretty good so far,” Cheramie said earlier today.
In Terrebonne Parish, there were small, scattered outages, and reports of trees down on some roads. All courts are open in Terrebonne except for Division “C.” Yard flooding is expected in Gibson and other areas that are normally prone to collecting water. The National Weather Service expects in excess of 35 inches of rain to fall in total between Friday and Saturday night, with a potential for “minor to moderate flooding.”
Both Terrebonne and Lafourche parish public schools will remain closed today. Nicholls State University also canceled Friday classes and offices.
Both parishes have set up self-filling sandbag stations at the locations listed below. Residents are urged to bring their own shovel to fill the sandbags.
