Get ready to support a local children’s literacy program by updating your accessories closet!

Purses and Promises: A Girls’ Night Out For Children’s Literacy, a fundraiser for Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence (TFAE) will feature gently used and new designer purses and handbags for sale, silent auction, and live auction. Some of the designer brand names featured include Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Alexander McQueen, Dooney & Bourke, and many more. There will also be jewelry, local artwork, and gift baskets up for auction as well.

The event, presented by Point of Vue Magazine, is this Friday, November 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Houma Courtyard Marriott (142 Library Drive). Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and kick off “Happy Hour” where you can enjoy discounted drinks until the start of the event. Local fashion personality Kate Stark will emcee the event. Tickets are $55 per person. Included with your ticket are heavy appetizers, wine, and the sponsorship of a local child in the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for one year.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a children’s literacy program where all registered children receive an age-appropriate book every month until their fifth birthday. The books are mailed directly to their home at no cost to their families. Research shows that early reading is proven to increase a child’s learning capacity, promote their literacy and motor skills, and most importantly – prepare them for Kindergarten which can set them up for success in life.

Currently, more than 3,200 Terrebonne Parish children are enrolled in the program and receive books each month, while another 5,660 children have completed the program. As the Funding Champion, TFAE has funded more than 235,000 books in Terrebonne Parish to date.

TFAE is an independent local non-profit organization that strives to positively affect academic achievement and to fundamentally improve education. Since 2001, TFAE has awarded more than $1 million grant dollars to Terrebonne Parish public school teachers.

Tickets can be purchased by contacting Katie Portier at 985-868-5881 or katie@tfae.org, or visiting www.tfae.org/purses-promises. Tickets are also available at the door night of the event.
