Businesses looking to get into coastal restoration will get a chance to learn about the state’s plans with those leading the charge.

Coastal advocacy group Restore or Retreat is hosting a business workshop May 19 to bring industry leaders, government officials and other coastal stakeholders together. The event will focus on winning restoration and protection work from local and state governments.

A morning panel will include updates on the Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority’s annual plan and the 2017 Master Plan, updated every five years and looking 50 years ahead. The panel will also feature a talk on doing business with the CPRA. CPRA Chairman Johnny Bradberry is the keynote speaker for the day’s luncheon.

Mike Plaisance, ROR executive committee president, said getting local stakeholders involved in the restoration process will have dual benefits for the region.

“With momentum growing for us to move from planning to implementation, now more than ever, we need our community to understand how rebuilding our environment can also help our economy,” he said.

The workshop is set for next Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Bollinger Student Union Ballroom at Nicholls State University. Those interested in attending can call ROR Executive Director Simone Maloz at 985-448-4485 or comple an online form at www.restoreorretreat.org.
