LSU fans be on alert: An Ole Miss fan has officially called you out!
In a good way, though – in a way that will hopefully see lives saved in the name of blood donation efforts at Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC).
The 12th Annual Ron Brooks Blood Drive Challenge is currently underway and will run through Sept. 28 at the hospital’s Blood Donor Center. It’s a yearly blood drive challenge started by Brooks, an avid Ole Miss fan, who wants to challenge local fans of LSU to give the gift of life by donating blood to the hospital. The date of the drive’s completion will be one day before LSU kicks off against Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium on Sept. 29.
Brooks started the challenge to stress the importance of blood donation in a community, while increasing the numbers locally.
Over the past 12 years, the Ron Brooks Blood Drive Challenge has brought in more than 7,000 donated pints to TGMC’s Blood Donor Center.
Each year, Brooks donates $1 to The Foundation for TGMC per pint of blood donated during the challenge.
This year’s goal is 1,000 pints, which would be a $1,000 donation.
“We are excited to enter into our 12th year of this challenge,” Brooks said. “Through this annual blood drive, we are able to receive blood donations that save the lives of people in our community. We really want to encourage LSU fans to come out and show your support – not only for the Tigers – but for members of our community that rely on these blood donations.”
TGMC said that blood donations are a crucial part of saving lives in a community.
Someone needs blood every 2 seconds and the process of donating a pint takes about 40 minutes, but could save up to three lives.
TGMC said that the funds donated by Brooks will be given back to the community through healthy lifestyle-centered programs offered by TGMC.
Each donor will receive a purple and gold commemorative t-shirt and will be entered into a drawing to win a football autographed by the Manning Family, an autographed football signed by LSU coach Ed Orgeron and also a $1,000 voucher for a trip of the winner’s choice.
First-time donors will also be entered to win a Google Home, as well. The winners will be announced on October 1, 2018 on HTV 10.
