Second Harvest Food Bank is partnering with the Lafourche Parish Government and Chevron to feed hundreds of families for the holidays. The food distribution will take place on Thursday Dec. 16, for 8 a.m. at the South Lafourche Library Branch, located at 16241 East Main Street.

The effort is intended to help parish residents with their continuing recovery in the wake of Hurricane Ida. The food items will include holiday favorites as well as cleaning supplies and diapers. The effort is expected to help 400 families in total, and is on a first-come, first-served basis until everything has been distributed. The event is yet another collaboration between Chevron and Second Harvest. To date, Chevron has provided more than 2 million dollars to support the food bank’s mission to fight hunger. Over more than a decade, Chevron team members have also donated thousands of volunteer hours to help pack food and distribute it to those in need.

“This latest contribution by Chevron will help many families in areas hardest-hit by Hurricane Ida,” reads a statement from Second Harvest President and CEO Natalie Jayroe. “I’ll add that Chevron not only supports us financially, but their employees also become personally involved, roll up their sleeves, and help us get the food those who need it most.  We thank them for their partnership and for the millions of meals they’ve provided over the years.” Jayroe added.

Nearly every standing structure in Lafourche Parish sustained damage from Category-4 Hurricane Ida, and the recovery and rebuilding effort is on-going.

“In the aftermath of natural disasters like Ida – and every day – Chevron is proud to partner with Second Harvest,” said Leah Brown, Public Affairs Manager for Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit. “We hope these contributions will uplift the spirits of residents of the Bayou Region during the holidays and support them as they continue their recovery. We’re thankful to be a part of this important initiative.”

Second Harvest, Chevron, and the Lafourche Parish Government encourage individuals, organizations, and business to be a part of Lafourche’s rebuilding in the months and years to come. For more information on how to volunteer and donate food or funds, please visit no-hunger.org.
