Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat today and Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans:
There is a marginal risk of severe weather today and tomorrow. For today, the risk is primarily in the mid to late afternoon thru evening hours. For Thursday, the risk is primarily afternoon/evening hours.
There is Moderate confidence today as we anticipate scattered showers and storms to increase later this afternoon/evening, some becoming strong to locally severe. Low confidence on Thursday with the potential for re-development in the late afternoon/evening hours.
The main threats associated with any severe storms today and Thursday:
• Damaging Winds:
• Locally strong, possibly damaging winds of 40 to 60 mph.
• Trees and powerlines could be damaged and lead to isolated/scattered power outages.
• Large Hail: Small hail possible, with the potential for large hail up to 1″ in diameter in any severe storm.
• A few isolated tornadoes will be possible.
Locally heavy rainfall is possible with any stronger storm, but the risk for widespread flash flooding will be low.
