One-term incumbent Murphy Pontiff Jr. and Anthony “A.D.” Delasbour will be on the Oct. 2 ballot for St. Mary School Board District 4.

Pontiff aims to continue academic growth and tackle budget issues and dropout rates. The key to multi-tasking, he said, is to ensure no budget cuts will interfere with curriculum or endanger the school atmosphere.

“I want to continue academic growth,” Pontiff said. “We are being reviewed by several states across the nation and many parishes across the state for our tremendous growth.

“We are going to have some budget shortfalls that need to be dealt with, and I want to make sure it doesn’t affect the classroom.”

Delasbour’s chief priority is to open the lines of communication for everyone, including school maintenance personnel, district representatives and the general public.

“I want to work closely with the schools, principals and all school board members,” Delasbour said. “I want to get the PTOs functioning and work on attendance and participation in schools.

I want to open communications between district representatives. I want to see about getting the school board meetings televised so everyone can see what is going on. I will be very hands-on.”

Delasbour said he will personally visit schools to meet with everyone from principals to custodians to get feedback about how to improve the school system.
