Taylor Foret, 19, of Raceland died in a single-vehicle crash on La. Highway 316 near Shamrock Drive in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana State Police Troop C said.

Police responded to the accident shortly after 12:15 a.m. on March 20.

The initial investigation revealed a 2008 Ford Fusion driven by Foret was traveling north on La. Highway 316, according to Troop C.  For reasons still under investigation, the Ford ran off the right side of the roadway and struck several mailboxes before entering a ditch, Troop C said, after entering the ditch, the Ford struck a culvert, and overturned several times before striking a tree.

“Foret was not properly restrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene,” police said. “Impairment is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was obtained from Foret and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.”

This crash remains under investigation.

“Louisiana State Troopers want to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained,” Troop C said. “Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.”

Troop C has investigated seven fatal crashes resulting in eight deaths in 2020.
