Terrebonne Parish School Board member Rickie Pitre will be looking to secure his District 4 seat for another term, while Debra “Debi” Benoit is also competing for the seat.

“I would be honored to continue to serve Terrebonne Parish as a strong, independent voice on the Board over the next four challenging years,” Pitre said, who added he has been on the board since 1987 and has since secured additional classrooms, new roofs, computer technology and numerous new programs.

Pitre plans to continue his progress on the board, if re-elected.

“As an elected School Board member my focus should and will remain on making certain that the established policies are followed by the Superintendent and his administration who in turn are to be held accountable for educating our children in a clean, safe environment,” he said. “[I will also] immediately begin to work on School Board District Reapportionment based on the 2010 Census which will provide the Board with all the student and demographic information needed to make qualified decisions on school building construction and student assignments.”

Benoit has a plan to bring school administration together with teachers and parents by creating a School Board Advisory Council.

“I propose professional development for the Board in order to sharpen our roles and responsibilities in policy making as well as investigating best practices,” Benoit said. “And to promote strategic planning to generate a vision and mission of academic and fiscal priorities and the creation of a school board advisory council to strengthen relationships and give stakeholders a voice.”

She said the election is about the children, and looks forward to bringing new ideas to the Board, if elected.
