Incumbent Clark Bonvillain and Brenda Leroux Babin will face each other in a run-off for Terrebonne School Board’s District 5 seat.

Bonvillain, who began his first term in 1981, plans to continue taking the steps for better education if re-elected.

“I’ve always been a person that was dedicated to providing the best possible education for the children of Terrebonne Parish,” Bonvillain said. “That is really my main purpose for seeking office initially and asking the people to re-elect me.”

He also said one of his strong points is always analyzing the issues presented by the board.

“I’m not a rubber stamp for the Superintendent and staff,” he said. “If I don’t think something is good for the kids I will oppose it.”

Bonvillain’s opponent said if elected, she plans on making changes for the future of the parish. Babin said she has spent 17 years in the classroom, in Terrebonne Parish and at Fletcher Technical Community College, which helps qualify here for the job.

“I am focusing on stopping the momentum of mediocrity and changing the direction to achieving excellence,” Babin said. “The first thing I intend to do is to make strategic plan for the budget, facilities, academics and staffing.”
