The opening for Terrebonne School Board’s District 6 seat will be soon occupied by either incumbent L.P. Bordelon or opponent Cindy Callahan, who ran and lost against Bordelon in the 2006 election.

Bordelon, veteran board member looks to continue with building renovations and development if re-elected to the board, and like other members of the board, wishes to focus on lowering the dropout rate.

“I want to focus on keeping the kids in school, and getting the parents involved with their education,” he said, and added he wants to continue using the Dropout Early Warning System, which is a program that identifies students who exhibit characteristics of dropping out.

“I feel that I have quite a bit to offer to the system because of my experience,” Bordelon said of his candidacy. “I’ve been a teacher, principal, worked as personnel and have been on the School Board for 11 and a half years.” I want to continue to serve the people in particular District 6 in the future.”

Callahan was unable to be reached for comment on her candidacy by press time.
