Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue and City of Thibodaux Mayor Tommy Eschete announced that changes have recently been made to a city street. St. Joseph Street, which previously allowed both northbound and southbound traffic to flow, has now been changed to a one-way street. Only traffic traveling southbound will now be allowed. As of today, the Menard Street side of St. Joseph Street is clearly marked with “DO NOT ENTER” signs.

This change was voted on and declared adopted by the Thibodaux City Council board at the January 19, 2021 City Council Meeting. Chief Zeringue encourages our community partners to familiarize yourself with the change and spread this information with your family and friends. Chief Zeringue added, “With this area being surrounded by school/daycare zones, this is a giant leap in the right direction for the safety of our children, parents and staff. The narrow width of St. Joseph Street also factored into this decision, which will ultimately make it safer for the residents and motorist who reside and utilize this street.

Our city and police department admirations understand that this change will be new and challenging to become accustomed too. In attempt to allow our community partners to familiarize themselves with this change, enforcement will be lenient for the next 30 days. Beginning on Wednesday February 24, 2021, violations will be strictly enforced.
