From TPSO:

On Tuesday, April 21 at about 9:30 a.m., a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Water Patrol unit was dispatched to an area of Terrebonne Bay about 3 miles from Cocodrie, in reference to a boater needing assistance with removing a raccoon that had stowed away in his boat.

The boater, whose vessel was an 18-foot, outboard-powered Carolina skiff, steered toward a marshy area and attempted to remove the raccoon. The raccoon became highly aggressive, however, which is why the vessel operator called for help.

The deputy responded and attempted to assist the boater, by attempting to herd the adult raccoon out of the rear storage area where it had run to. The raccoon was not cooperative, displaying both aggressive and evasive behavior.

Operating the vessel would have created a risk to the boater and after several unsuccessful attempts to rout the raccoon Terrebonne Parish Animal Control was notified. The vessel was towed to a dock on the 6700 block of La. 56.

When the Animal Control officer arrived, she used a snare to remove the raccoon from the rear compartment of the boat and placed it in a carry-box for transport to the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter.

Neither the raccoon nor any humans were injured.
