The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office is continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Barry.

Col. Terry Daigre, TPSO Chief Deputy, said citizens can do their part before the storm by clearing their yards and lawns of potential hazards, because those are the objects that are most likely to be blown down in the event of tropical storm winds.

He said signs should be taken down until storm threats have passed for the safety of everyone in the area – including political signs.

“Signs showing support for all political candidates, for all offices, represent an important form of expression,” Col. Daigre said. “But strong winds can turn signs and metal stakes into dangerous flying debris.”

As of Thursday, July 11 at 3 p.m., no effects from Tropical Storm Barry are apparent.

Anyone requiring assistance should call 911 for life-threatening emergencies, or the Sheriff’s Office switchboard at 876-2500. The Terrebonne Parish Emergency Operations Center can also be reached at 873-6357.
