Invest 97L has been designated off the coast of Africa with a vigorous tropical wave. The next name on the list is Danielle.

This Monday morning, NHC is monitoring a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the far eastern tropical Atlantic south of the Cabo Verde islands associated with a tropical wave. Environmental conditions appear generally conducive for gradual development of this system while it moves westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic, and a tropical depression could form around the middle to latter part of this week. It has a low (20 percent) chance of formation during the next 48 hours and a medium (40 percent) chance of formation in the next 5 days.
