“Tax Day” is moving to July 15, Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin announced via Twitter this morning.

“At [President Donald Trump’s] direction, we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15,” he wrote. “All taxpayers and business will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.”

“I encourage all taxpayers who may have tax refunds to file now to get your money,” Mnuchin continued.

Previously, the date remained April 15, however, the IRS provided payment relief.

Announced yesterday, the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is giving businesses additional time to file returns due this month for sales and excise taxes collected by LDR. For applicable returns and payments that were due Today, March 20, the deadline is now May 20, 2020.

“The extension applies to sales, beer excise and wine excise tax returns and payments for the February 2020 tax period. By state law, sales and excise tax returns for any monthly tax period are generally due on the 20th day of the following month,” said LDR. “However, LDR is extending this month’s deadline due to the public health emergency caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This is an automatic extension and no extension request is necessary.”

The Department said will waive penalties and interest for applicable returns and payments received by the extended May 20 deadline.
