Houma bluesman Tab Benoit and Louisiana LeRoux closed the Voice of the Wetlands Festival Sunday night playing songs from their “Power of the Pontchartrain.” Benoit is pictured with LeRoux bassist Lone Medica. Clear skies, cooler temperatures and a lineup featuring the likes of Waylon Thibodaux, the Little Band of Gold and the VOW Allstars attracted hundreds to Southdown Plantation. The real cause for the weekend, however, was to draw attention to south Louisiana’s eroding coastline. “Everyone loves our food, our music and our way of life, but without help from Washington, all of this is in danger of disappearing,” Benoit told the crowd. “It’s going to take all of us coming together and fighting for change to make a difference.” * Photo by SHELL ARMSTRONG
