January 16, 2018There’s a 50/50 chance it snows tonight in Houma, according to The Weather Channel.
The national weather authority updated their forecasts at 3 p.m., upping their winter precipitation forecasts for Houma from 20 percent to 50 percent – a sizable jump.
The app says the peak times for precipitation are from 8 p.m. to midnight, as temperatures drop below freezing and moisture enters the area from the Arctic front which is fast approaching.
The lowest temperature for tonight is expected to be 21 degrees and that drop is expected from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Wind chill indexes are expected to be 8-10 degrees colder than the low, dropping near the 10 degree mark.
All local schools are closed tomorrow locally as a precaution with the cold weather expected.
State-run buildings will be shut down, as well.
If winter precipitation falls, it’s not expected to stick to the ground like it did in December.
Ground temperatures are well above freezing, because of our area’s recent warm-weather kick, which would likely melt any snow as soon as it falls.
