The weather this week hasn’t exactly been ideal – except, of course, for those who love lots and lots of rain.

The weekend, unfortunately, isn’t expected to be much better, thanks to a tropical disturbance in the Pacific, which is expected to keep the area wet until the middle of next week.

A Pacific tropical depression went inland over southern Mexico on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, moving northward.

The mass of showers is expected to cross Mexico and get into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend, bathing parts of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi with bands of rain until the middle of next week.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a low probability of the system developing in the Gulf of Mexico because of high wind shears, which will likely prevent circulation from forming.

But forecasts suggest that several inches of rain may fall throughout the weekend and even into next week over local areas that already received several inches on Tuesday.

Officials with both Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes said they are aware of the threat for rain, adding that they’ll take the proper precautions to curb street or neighborhood flooding if they need to.

On Tuesday, several streets in Lafourche and Terrebonne took water.

In Cut Off, some rain gauges measured upwards of 9 inches of precipitation and at least one home in the parish took on water.
