High winds moving through the area downed a utility pole in the 5600 block of La. Highway 1 in Lockport this morning, stopping traffic in both directions, authorities said.

Lafourche sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Lesley Hill said motorists were diverted through the Lockport Heights Subdivision until the road was cleared. Highway 1 was reopened to traffic shortly before noon today.

Also around 7:30 a.m., winds tore the roof off of a home at 240 Grand Drive in Chackbay. Hill said no one inside the home was injured.

Deputies and the American Red Cross are on the scene helping the homeowner secure the residence, Hill said.
