Alfred Freeman Richards, 75, a native of Swartz and resident of Houma, LA., died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Houma. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop.


He is survived by three sons, Dennis Richards and wife, Angela, of Morgan City, LA., Terry Richards of Houma and Mark Richards of Thibodaux, LA.; one stepbrother, Gerald “Butch” Johnson of Germantown, Tenn.; one sister, Juanita Harper of Collinston; one half-sister, Patricia Lockwood of Houma; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Odelle Standard Richards; his parents, Ruby O. Richards and Nonie M. Daniels Richards; one son, Charles “Chuck” Richards; two brothers, Ancil Richards and Coy Richards; and two sisters, Peggy R. Carter and Ruby Mae R. Hughes.

He was a retired fishing tool coordinator with Weatherford and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Chauvin Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
