Alvin “Smot” Dufrene, Sr., 68, a native and resident of Des Allemands, La. died Thursday, November 22, 2007 at 7:57 p.m.


He is survived by his wife, Alyne Johnson Dufrene; one son, Alvin Dufrene, Jr. and his wife Reggie; two daughters, Sarah Rankin and Debbie Palamone and her husband Mike; three sisters, Genevieve, Janice, and Della; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelven “Duke” and Alice Dufrene; and one brother, Will Dufrene.


Alvin was a devout Christian and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands. He was a loving husband for 48 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved the great outdoors and bayous of Louisiana.

Visitation is Monday, November 26, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with the funeral to follow at First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands. He will be buried in Sunset Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands in Alvin’s name to help build churches in poor areas.

Samart-Mothe Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
