Alvin “Bill” Joseph Guidry, 101, a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Houma, died at 4:55 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007.


Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Ann Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.


He is survived by one son, Russell P. Guidry and wife, Betty, of Houma; two daughters, Shirley G. Cenac of Houma and Diana G. Juneau and husband, John, of Mansura; one sister, Dorothy G. Bonnette of Houma; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Lorena Blanchard Guidry; his parents, Isaac and Blanche G. Guidry; one daughter, Eula Mae Ann Guidry; one son-in-law, Thomas A. Cenac; one daughter-in-law, Jerry Lynn Drott Guidry; two brothers, Aaron Guidry and Ishmael P. Guidry; and two sisters, Beatrice Townsend and Leola Cinquemani.

He was a retired self-employed carpenter and constructed Higgins Boats during World War II.

He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
