May 27, 2010Dr. Andrew Harold Hoffmann Jr., 79, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
After graduating from Thibodaux College, Dr. Hoffmann earned his bachelor’s degree at LSU and medical degree at LSU Medical School in New Orleans. He interned and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.
In 1961, he joined the Thibodaux Medical Group and later helped start the Women’s Clinic. He was also a past chief of staff at Thibodaux Regional Hospital and past president of the Lafourche Parish Medical Society.
It was estimated that during his 27 years of active practice, Dr. Hoffmann birthed 6,510 babies.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Schwarzenbach Hoffmann; sons, Dr. Andrew III (Susan), Jeffrey (Karen) and Eric Hoffmann; daughters, Lisa (Herman Jr.) Waguespack and Jill (Daryl) Andrus; sisters, Sarah “Sally” Binnings and Patricia “Pat” Boquet; seven grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
He is buried at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral Cemetery in Thibodaux.
