Angel Manuel Merlos, 81, a native of Jatibonico, Cuba, and resident of Houma, Louisiana, died at 5:40 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2015.

Mr. Merlos was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. He worked 40 years at Main Iron Works. A devoted family man, he was good with his hands and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his son, Manuel (Martha) Merlos of Houma; daughter, Alina Merlos of Houma; brother, Juan Merlos of West Palm Beach, Florida; sisters, Maria and Matilde Merlos, both of Cuba; two grandchildren, Manuel II (Megan) and Annie Marie Merlos; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Ann Merlos.


Mr. Merlos was preceded in death by his wife, Oneida Merlos; parents, Manuel and Carmen Merlos; and sister, Teresa Merlos Gonzales.

Donations in his memory may be made to the United Way for South Louisiana.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Bernadette Soubirous Catholic Church. Burial is at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
