Annie Mae Menard, 81, a native of Gueydan, La., and longtime resident of Patterson, La., died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011.


Ms. Menard was a loving, caring and generous woman who was very active throughout her community. In 1949 she began working for the Southern Bell Telephone Company and dedicated 36 years of faithful service until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the LeBayou Council of the Telephone Pioneers of America and formerly served as its chapter president. She devoted much of her time to working with Habitat for Humanity and the Special Olympics, as well as organized a group of volunteers to sew hug-a-bears, which were distributed to local hospitals. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Patterson Healthcare Center and many local elementary schools. She was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Patterson American Legion Post and was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Advey Menard and Claire Dubois Broussard; and three brothers, Paul, L.J. and Joseph Sr. Menard.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Dr. Albert, Dr. Lam, Dr. Valdez and the staffs at Maison Jardin Assisted Living Community, Teche Regional Medical Center, Bayou Home Care and St. Joseph Hospice.

She is buried at St. Joseph Cemetery. (Ibert’s)
