Anthony “A.J” John Dagate, 80 a native and resident of Houma, La., died Thursday April 16, at 8:45 a.m.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Hazlip Dagate; sons, Lawrence Dagate, Dr. John Dagate, and Jimmy Dagate and wife Jennifer Weimer Dagate; daughters, Annette Dagate Saal and husband Dr. Chris Saal, and Robin Dagate Stonecipher and husband Ben Stonecipher; sister, Frances Dagate Waldrip; grandchildren, Jason Dagate and wife Erin Dagate, Jacob Dagate, Rachel Saal, Adam Saal, Sam Stonecipher and James Stonecipher; and step-grandchild, Michelle Stonecipher.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Dagate and Victoria Callia Dagate; and brothers, Vincent Dagate Sr. and Alex Dagate.


He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He was a retired Chief Investigator for the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s Office, past president of the Louisiana District Attorney’s Investigator Association, past president of the Terrebonne Sportsman’s League, past president of the Terrier Club, former member of the Whiskey Pass Association, a member of the St. Joseph’s Italian Society and a 2003 Inductee in the Vandebilt Catholic High School Hall of Fame.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales School or Vandebilt Catholic High School.

The family gives special thanks to Dr. Dickie Haydel and his staff.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday April 20, at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at St. Francis de Sales #1 Cemetery.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
