August John Arnould, Jr. was born on March 7, 1954.


In his 56 years of life, he proved to be one of those unique individuals who had a profound affect on everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a true individual in every sense of the word. His wit and charm left everlasting impressions to be dearly cherished . After a lengthy battle with cancer, he peacefully departed on June 11, 2010. In our family we are frequently reminded that the first and last children are deemed “perfect.” Gus, of course, being the eldest of his siblings. While he would be too humble to refer to himself that way, it is the way he will be remembered. There was rarely a topic on which he could not enlighten those around him. His vast knowledge never ceased to astound his family and friends. He quenched his quest for learning by obtaining his high school diploma from Berwick High School in 1972, and then a degree from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Gus also touched many lives in the oil and marine vessel industry over his many years of employment at Seahorse, Tidewater, Oceaneering, and most recently Gator Tank Rentals. Gus’s beloved mother, Gayle, has instituted a family tradition of Sunday lunch. Gus sat at the head of the table, and for a majority of the meals was the only male in the room. He would usually sit quietly, taking in the constant chatter and would only interject on subjects worthy of his comments. He is probably the only one at the table who thought…


August “Gus” John Arnould Jr., 56, died Friday, June 11, 2010, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Mr. Arnould’s wit and charm left everlasting impressions to be dearly cherished. His vast knowledge never ceased to astound his family and friends. He quenched his quest for learning by obtaining his high school diploma from Berwick High School in 1972, and then a degree from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. Gus also touched many lives in the oil and marine vessel industry over his many years of employment at Seahorse, Tidewater, Oceaneering, and most recently Gator Tank Rentals. Gus was the most giving and generous person anyone could know. Gus will be sadly missed, but always fondly remembered.


He is survived by his wife, Sabrina Martin Arnould; son, Michael J. Scott; mother, Gayle Driskill Arnould; father, August J. Arnould Sr.; sisters, Kim A. Alcina, Lisa A. Omota and Nancy A. Premeaux; brother, Bernie M. Arnould; half-brother, Patrick Arnould; nieces and nephews, Melanie Williams (Scott), Michael McIntyre II, Joey Alcina (Kristi), Amy Owens, Annie McIntyre (Chris LeBlanc) and Garrett McIntyre; and a host of relatives and friends.

He is interred at Berwick Mausoleum.

To honor his legacy, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Gus’s name. The family would also like to extend a special note of gratitude to the entire staff of Teche Regional Medical Center. Every person who came into contact with Gus provided him with exceptional care, which made his final days as comfortable as possible.
