Benjamin (Benny) Paul (Shorty buck) Savoie, 83, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Friday, October 24, at 3:45 a.m.

He is survived by his wife, Merle Bonvillian Savoie; sons, Ralph and wife Liz Null Savoie and Miles and wife Myrna Deroche Savoie; daughters, Gwen and husband Perry Breaux and Suzette Lottinger and husband Tim Lottinger; brother, Paul Savoie; sister, Valerie Himel; and grandchildren, Craig Breaux, Steven, Robert, Nicholas and Jessica Savoie and Rachel and Bradley Hebert.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. and Antoinette Uzie Savoie; brother, Carroll Savoie; and sisters, Jeanette Savoie, Elsie Savoie and Bessie Brunet.

He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and World War II Victory Medal. He belonged to the American Legion Post 31, V.F.W. Post 3700, 99th Infantry, DAV Chapter Bayou 9, past Commander of American Legion Post 21 and District Commander of the American Legion. He retired from Texaco after 32 years and was the proprietor of Bennie’s Grocery and Bar in Bayou Black, La. He was the former owner of Triple S convenience store. He was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Church.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, October 26, at Falgout Funeral Home’s Chapel and 8 a.m. to funeral time at St. Bernadette Church with mass to follow. Burial will be at St. Francis II Cemetery.
