Bertha M. Williams, 91, a native of Golden Meadow, La., and a resident of Galliano, La., died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, December 22.
She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Andrew “Pep” Williams; one son, Kent Williams and wife Dona Cheramie Williams; three daughters, Joyce W. Leonard and husband Dr. James Leonard, Brenda W. Hymel and husband Carroll Hymel, and Elizabeth W. Griffin and husband Lon Griffin; one step-brother, Johnny “Nookie” Cheramie; two brothers, Clarence Martin and Lincoln Martin; two half-brothers, Armise Martin Jr. and Donald Martin; one sister, Lucille Gillenwater; two step-sisters, Ruth Pitre and Mildred Martin; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Armise and Angelina Angelette Martin; one son, Russell Williams; three brothers, Uderick “Toto” Martin, Stanley Martin and Lindberg Martin; one sister, Lucia St. Pierre; and one half-sister, Bernise “Tip” Arriaga.
She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was the 15th queen of the Krewe of Nereids in 1999. She was a member of the Krewe of Nereids for 20 years, a member of Tops and an avid ceramic maker.
She was buried at Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.
