Bessie Beatrice Whitney Waguespack, 94, a native of Morgan City, La., and a resident of River Ridge, La., died Tuesday, June 9.


She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Waguespack Talbot of Abita Springs, La.; brothers, James J. Whitney Sr. of Houma, La., and Louis P. Whitney of Houma; half-brother, Milton Whitney of Houma; sisters, Mrs. Albert (Virginia) “Tootie” Lamaire of New Iberia, La., Mrs. Jeane W. Broussard of New Iberia, Mrs. Vincent (Mae) W. Saia of Harahan, La., Mrs. George (Delores) “Doty” W. Schwartz of River Ridge and Mrs. James (Evelyn) “Evy” Pike of Torrance, Calif.; half-sisters, Mrs. John (Barbara) Davis of Sequim, Wash., Mrs. Eugene (Catherine) Theriot of Albuquerque, N.M., Mrs. Margaret Granberry of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Judy Guidroz of Avondale, La., Mrs. Bill (Rose) Long of Slidell, La., Mrs. Michael (Anita) “Nita” Kelpsch of Houma and Mrs. Anne Guiniot of Houma; grandchildren, Douglas, James and Courtney Talbot and Virginia T. Bollinger; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hayes J. Whitney Sr.; step-mother, Mrs. Hayes (Mae) Whitney; step-mother, Mrs. Hayes (Judith) Whitney; brother, Hayes J. Whitney Jr.; and half-sister, Roberta Harris.


She was Catholic and a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church. She was the manager of Terrebonne Parish American Red Cross for 30 years.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Red Cross.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at Terrebonne Memorial Park Cemetery.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
