Betty Elaine Leach Cooley, 81, a native of Shreveport, La., and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.


She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” G. Cooley; son, Kerry L. Cooley; grandchildren, Lyndsay (Dr. Aminu) Isyaku of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Clayton Patrick McDonough of Baton Rouge; brother-in-law, John (Bonnie) Cooley; nephews, Kenneth (Carol) and Klayton Cooley; niece, Kelsey Nicole Cooley, all of DeRidder; uncle, Hershal (Betty) McConathy of Littleton, Colo.; and former daughter-in-law, Karen C. McDonough.


She was preceded in death by her brother, Max Leach.

She is buried at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lafourche Parish Public Library are appreciated.

Landry’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
