Beulah “Tootsie” Givens Burlew, 81, a resident of Houma, La., and a former resident of Bastrop, La., died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010.

Ms. Burlew was a retired Morehouse Parish schoolteacher and a member of First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Teachers Sorority “Kappa Kappa Iota” and served as an auxillary volunteer at Morehouse General Hospital.


She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Burlew; son, Sam (Cindy) Burlew; five grandchildren, Hale Burlew, Allyson Parker, Libby McDowell, Dona Burlew and Meredith Burlew; one great-grandson, Brody McDowell; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and loyal friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Givens; three brothers, C.L. Sr., Mack and Billy Givens; and three sisters, Mattie Alice Meredith, Sammy Waldrip and Mary Hammond.

Pallbearers were Bert Givens, Corey Parker, Hale Burlew, Wayne Philley, Donald Gene Givens, Louis Givens, and William Givens.

Honorary pallbearers were O.L. Harper, C.L. Givens, Jr., and Charles Martin.

She is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery.
