Billy LaMarr Brown Sr., 82, a native of Devers, Texas, and former resident of New Orleans and Houma, La., and current resident of Sugar Land, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Mr. Brown served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps in WWII and the Korean War. He graduated from Tulane University in 1955, with a B.A. in Physical Education. He was a teacher and coach in Houma for 15 years. He was also a “distinguished salesman” for American Family Life Assurance Co., and an avid fisherman. He enjoyed bowling, golf and billiards with his family and friends through the years. He was a wonderful grandfather and was very proud of all 10 of his grandchildren.


He is survived by his wife, Shirley “Lois” Michel Brown; children, Susan (Curtis) Brock, Billy Jr. (Tammy) and Lawrence (Shelley) Brown, Bonnie (Jay Sr.) Pennison and Annette (Ronald) Murray; 10 grandchildren, Tiffiny and Jay Jr. Pennison, Dustin, Ryan, Sean and Emma Brown, Brooke Cole, Millicent Bolin, Matthew Brock and Nikki Murray; and sisters, Mickey Nelson and Terry Lynn (Perry) Ely.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Inez McDonald Brown; and three sisters, Nell Rose Trosclair, Patty Theriot and Gloria Gordon.

He is interred at Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations in Billy’s name be made to the Houston and Southeast Texas Alzheimer’s Foundation, 2242 West Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030-2008, 713-314-1313.
