Calvin Scoby Tolbert, 60, a native of Terrebonne Parish, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Sunday, November 9.


He is survived by his wife, Shirley Butler Tolbert; three sons, Kenyatte Celestine and wife Katrina, of Queen Creek, Ar., Calvin Tolbert Jr. of Many, La., and Alvin Celestine and wife Aretha of Houma; three daughters, Dawn Allen of New Orleans, La., Lula Celestine and Laura Calloway of Houma; three brothers, Clarence Scoby and wife Edith, of New Orleans, Oliver Francois and Benny Francois Jr. of Houma; eight sisters, Rose Dell Adams of Raceland, La., Lillie Mae Morgan, Evelyn Jones and husband Edgar, Bettye Joseph and husband Harvey, Earline Durkins and husband Alexander, Rose Lee Myles and husband Johnny, Delores Francois and Eartha Francois, all of Houma; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.


He was preceded in death by his companion, Beverly Celestine; his parents, Lula Tolbert Scoby and Benny Francois; five sons, Freddie Johnson, James Johnson, Wilbert Francois, Earl Scoby and Tom Scoby; and six sisters, Maggie S. Matthews, Alice S. Adams, Mary Francois, Agnes Francois, Annie Kemp and Catherine Miller.

He was a retired technician.

He was buried at Halfway Cemetery.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
