Charles Gilmore Alba Jr., 82, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, June 26, 2010.


His love of photography at an early age led him to obtain a degree at the University of Houston. He owned the L&N Camera Store in Houma for 20 years. After retirement, he traveled around the world several times. He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes in many states.


He was a 50-year member of the Houma Lions Club and was awarded the distinguished Melvin Jones award several years ago. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Ruth; son, Stanley Alba; daughter, Ellen (Michael) Fakier; granddaughter, Lauren Fakier; sister, Anne Alba Shubert; and brother, Adrian Alba.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Jeanette Shields Alba; and one brother, Richard Alba.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can by made to the Houma Lions Club, P.O. Box 1102, Houma, La. 70361 or My Heart’s Desire Pet Adoption Center, 246 N. Hollywood Road, Houma, La., 70360.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Lake Lawn Mausoleum in Metairie, La.
