Charley Felix Matherne, 78, a native of Gheens, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Tuesday, April 21, at 5:20 a.m.


He is survived by his son, Charley Jr. and wife Christina Matherne; daughter, Patricia and husband Larry Labit; nine grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvest and Henrietta Rivet Matherne; daughter, Linda Hebert; brothers, Samuel, Louis and Leroy Matherne; and sisters, Leah Cheramie and Ezolin Chauvin.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the VFW and a parishioner of Coteau Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at Falgout Funeral Home’s Chapel in Houma, and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Coteau Baptist Church. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with entombment at St. Charles Mausoleum in Luling, La.

Falgout Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
