Clarence “Little Clarence” Joseph Mathews Sr., 57, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Sunday, March 29, at 12:30 p.m.


He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann Thomas Mathews of Thibodaux; daughters, Liza Marie Thomas and Josie Marie Thomas, both of Thibodaux; sons, Richard Lyndell Washington of Thibodaux and Clarence Mathews Jr. of Boutte, La.; brother, Wilbert Mathews of Thibodaux; sisters, Lelia Southall, Edna Winslow and Gloria Miller, all of Thibodaux; step-sisters, Bessie Mae Darnell of Patterson, La., Lou Ann Jackson of New Orleans, La., and Mary Scott of Houma, La.; a very devoted friend, Clement Williams; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Mary Mathews; brothers, Eddie Carter Sr., Aaron Jackson Sr., Richard Mathews, Scuddy Mathews, Elijah Jackson, Charles Jackson, Edward Jackson Sr., Harry Mathews and Willie Mathews; sisters, Dorothy Mae Jackson and Annie Bell Jackson; and grandparents, Joseph and Agnes Shepherd Spott.

He was a member of Moses Baptist Church. His hobbies included fishing and yard work.

A religious service was held Saturday, April 4, at Moses Baptist Church in Thibodaux followed by burial at the church cemetery.

Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
