Cleveland Lewis, 99, a native of Belle Alliance and a resident of Labadieville, La., died Monday, July 7.


He is survived by three daughters, Beatrice Hill of Thibodaux, La., Audrey Warner of El Paso, Tx., and Helen Worley of Paincourtville, La.; one son, Howard Lewis of Houma, La.; one brother, Harry Lewis of Picayune, Ms.; 23 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Everline Martin Lewis; his parents, Josephine and Oscar Lewis Sr.; two daughters, Margret Tillman and Josephine Lewis; two brothers, Oscar Lewis Jr. and Welman Frank Sr.; and five sisters, Mary Williams, Fonstine Lewis, Estoria Lewis, Beatrice Smith and Ida Lee.

He was the Number 1 usher of St. Mark Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at St. Mark Baptist Church in Labadieville with a religious service to follow. He will be buried at the church cemetery.

Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
