Clyde Joseph Dennis, 83, a native and lifelong resident of Thibodaux, LA., died peacefully at his residence in Thibodaux, Sunday, March 11, 2007.


Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery.


He was the loving husband of Catherine “Chink” Bergeron Dennis; also survived by two sisters, Emily Dennis Rodrigue and Lottie Dennis Soignet; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emily Webre Dennis and Ozias Franklin “Tobe” Dennis; one brother, Michael A. Dennis; and three sisters, Elizabeth Dennis Gervais, Pearl Dennis George and Estelle Dennis Hitch.

He was the founder and former owner of Clyde’s Jewelry Store in Thibodaux and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and VFW. He ushered at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, participated annually with the Lenten gumbos and was an avid golfer. He was a graduate of Thibodaux College and served bravely in World War II in Central Europe and Northern France.
