Curtis C. Aikens Sr., 89, a native of Terrebonne Parish, La., and a resident of Gibson, La., died Wednesday, September 17.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Billizon Aitkens; one son, Curtis C. Aikens Jr. of Riverside, Ca.; one stepson, Edward Washington and wife Brenda of Houma, La.; four daughters, Marion Murdock and husband Sonney of Gulfport, Ms., Peggie Ann Rixner of Houston, Tx., Cementry Arnold of Gibson and Chandra Ray Aitkens of Tampa, Fl.; one stepdaughter, Cherin Washington of Houma; 26 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Earline Porche Aitkens; his second wife, Oza Aitkens; his parents, Henry and Lillie Morgan Aitkens; three brothers, Mack Aitkens, Chalsen Aitkens and James Aitkens Sr.; eight sisters, Gertrude Matthews, Sophie Washington, Lillie Jackson, Alma Brown, Alice White, Hazel Hawkins, Vivian Charles and Gladys Veal; and one granddaughter, Cheryl Mignott.

He was retired from General Motors and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a deacon and a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 20, at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Gibson with the funeral service to follow. He will be buried at the church cemetery.
