Dale Hester, 91, a native of Crowley, La., and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010.


Mr. Hester was a Louisiana teacher for more than 40 years, teaching for many years at Crowley High School. After obtaining his master’s in math from USL, he moved to Thibodaux, and taught at Nicholls State University. He served as a U.S. Navy pilot in World War II, seeing combat in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He retired from the Naval Air Corps with the rank of lieutenant commander.


He is survived by his daughters, Peggy (James) Grant and Joan (Dale) Melancon; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Grant DeHart, and Alex and Gretchen Melancon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Powell Hester; and his parents, John and Ruth Hester.

He is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
