Daniel A. Matherne, 78, a native and resident of Des Allemands, La., died at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday, September 17.


He is survived by one son, Dirk A. Matherne and wife Laurie F. Matherne; two daughters, Valerie Matherne Lutz and husband John, and Leah Matherne Cornwell and husband Doyle; one sister, Pansy Matherne Brown; and four grandchildren, Evan Matherne, Colin Matherne, Bryce Cornwell and Aubrey Cornwell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie M. Matherne; his parents, Charles Matherne Jr. and Pearl Candies Matherne; and one sister, Lois M. Matherne.


He was a lifelong commercial crab fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was a parishioner of St. Gertrude Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Mary’s Nativity School, 3500 Hwy. 1 Raceland, La., 70394.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 20, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands with mass to follow. He will be buried at the church cemetery.

Falgout Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
