Dave J. Gros, 77, a native and resident of Napoleonville, La., died at 8:10 a.m. Monday, November 3.

He is survived by two nieces, Angela Gros Boudreaux and Allyson Gros Bourgeois; two great-nieces, Kristie Boudreaux Fannin and Brittany Lynn Bourgeois; and one great-great-nephew, Logan Fannin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raoul Gros and Eunice Daigle Gros; three brothers, Joseph, Robert and Kerry P. Gros; and one nephew, Kerry P. Gros Jr.

He was an Air Force Korean War veteran, earned his master’s in education from LSU in Baton Rouge, La., and then taught a variety of courses including history, math, science and driver’s education to sixth, seventh and eighth graders in Assumption Parish, La., for approximately 15 years. He became a full-time barber for the next 30 plus years although he cut hair while in the military and part-time after teaching as well. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 18 serving in Germany and Biloxi, Ms., in radar operations. He never married or had children although he spent much of his free time entertaining children as a magician. Yup. He performed magic shows during the holidays and parties every chance he got. When not entertaining, he enjoyed painting landscapes.

He was buried at St. Anne Catholic Church Cemetery in Napoleonville.

Landry’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
