David Simpson Spence, 52, a native of Houma, La., and resident of Lafayette, La., died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011.


Mr. Spence was an active parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and a devoted Catholic who loved the rosary and it could always be found in his pocket. He attended St. Francis de Sales School and graduated from Vandebilt Catholic High School. He graduated from Nicholls State University in 1981 with a Bachelor’s Degree, with a Major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He worked for Reed Hycalog, Baker Hughes and most recently GL Noble Denton in Houston. He was affiliated with LAGCOE of Lafayette. David was a generous donor of platelets at UBS in Lafayette and his final gift was the donation of his organs. He was an excellent golfer and a devoted husband, father, brother and son. His bright mind and contagious smile will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Spence; father, Charles (Garnett) Spence Sr.; mother, Gloria Jolly Spence; children, Allison and Jeffrey Spence; brothers, Charles Jr. (Cindy), Mark (Monee) and Philip (Samantha) Spence; sisters, Elizabeth (Bill) Watkins, Sharon (David) Boudreaux and Mary (Lee) Orgeron; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Clark Spence.

He is buried at Bayou Black Cemetery.
