Dixie Lancon, 79, a native of Patterson, La., and resident of Lafayette, La., died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010.


Mrs. Lancon grew up and went to school in Jeanerette, La. She furthered her education at SLI (now UL) in Lafayette and graduated with a B.A. in Lower Elementary Education. While attending college she was a member of the pep squad called the Red Jackets. After graduating from college she married and started her teaching career in Patterson. She also taught at Bayou Vista Elementary and at M.D. Shannon. After teaching many years she retired from St. Mary Parish and remained active as a volunteer in the school system. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. She was noted for her red velvet cakes and pecans pies among family and friends whom she loved very much. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, visiting with family and friends and taking care of her dogs.


She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lancon; sisters, Tommie (Ray) Gutzman and Betty Gomez Fourroux; and her faithful companions, Angie and June.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Lancon; parents, Milton and Clemence Hebert Gomez; and sister, Germaine Gomez.
