Earl Savoie, 86, a native of Gheens, La., and a resident of Larose, La., died Wednesday, December 3.


He is survived by his wife, Edwina Danos Savoie; one son, Karl Savoie and wife Stacey; one daughter, Gail Danos; one brother, Houston Savoie; one sister, Elta Fonseca; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sidonia Savoie; one daughter, Pamela Savoie St. Pierre; one granddaughter, Amaris St. Pierre; four brothers, Sergis, Alton, Horace and Forrest Savoie; and three sisters, Jane Plaisance, Annie Pennison and Vernice Ordoyne.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a retired employee of the Valentine paper mill and a former member of the Lafourche Parish School Board. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and was an avid Saints fan and was known for his whistling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society.

He was buried at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery in Larose.

Samart-Mothe Funeral Home of Cut Off, La., is in charge of the arrangements.
