Edmond Joseph Dufrene, 81, a native of Gheens, La., and resident of Memphis, Tenn., died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, following a long illness.


Mr. Dufrene served in the Navy during the Korean War. He retired from the Illinois Central Railroad and as a tool and die maker for Eastex Packaging. He volunteered for the Wonder Series, Memphis in May and many other Memphis community events. He also volunteered as a little league baseball coach and was active in Boy Scout Troup 32. He was an active member of St. James Catholic Church.


He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Schoone; son, Eddie Dufrene; two grandchildren; brothers, Herman, Howard, Harold and Jesse Dufrene; sisters, Janet Chiasson and Marion Walton; and 29 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mattie Ellis Murphey; and his parents, Jesse and Eva Champagne Dufrene.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to American Diabetic Association, or the charity or church of the donor’s choosing.
